My Video Mash-up Proposal
The topic for my video mash-up will be ethics. My mash-up will be about the idea of ethics and explaining right and wrong. Ethics is a concept that has existed forever. In my mash-up I want to have a story of what ethics is, this story will be shown through images, video clips, and background music. This topic intrigued me because in my YouTube conversation one of my group mates brought up the fact that some people don't live their lives according to ethics. That was so foreign to me, I didn't understand how someone could live without a sense of right and wrong to govern their thoughts and actions.
The audience I have in mind for this video mash-up is people who believe in ethics, those who do not believe in ethics and people who might not realize that they live ethically. I want to open people's eyes to the topic. I am not taking a religious stance with this mash-up, I want it to apply to anyone and everyone. I don't want my viewers to think that ethics are solely for people who believe in God or a god. I don't think that ethics pertain to only those who believe in a higher deity than themselves, so I want to relay that message through my mash-up. Ethics are evident in everyday life, like in the government. Everyone must abide by the laws/rules ordained by the government or else they will suffer negative consequences. If one person kills another person they are going to be punished, likely by being sent to jail. This is an idea that I'm pretty sure applies to all people and that I would think all people are aware of/can relate to.
The main semiotic strategy I'd like to play with is perspective. I think that perspective is a driving force in why people do or don't live by ethics. The way that one views the world is determined by their perspective. Perspective, I think, is a factor in if one lives according to ethics or not.
My images will have to do with things like "Do not enter" signs and my video clips will include police officers at a crime scene or maybe a court case, etc. For music, I might choose the song "World" by Five for Fighting. I haven't settled on a definite song yet though, that is just an option for now.
I think I will want to have a song playing in the background throughout the mash-up However, this song will be interrupted at points by audio from some of the video clips that will be shown. A few images in the mash-up will be shown only once and others will be displayed multiple times to make a point. This will be the same for the video clips, part of them will be shown once and some will be recurring.
