This image is a simple definition of the word ethical as defined by Merriam-Webster online.
I want to begin my video with this definition since the theme/topic of my mash-up is ethics. I think I would want this image to be displayed multiple times throughout my mash-up.
This definition is one of many for the word "ethical". Some may agree with this interpretation and others may think it is completely inaccurate. This definition is based off perspective, an aspect of semiotics.
This image depicts some synonyms as well as a few antonyms for the word ethics. I found these synonyms and antonyms on Thesaurus.com.
I thought it made sense for this image to follow the definition of the word because it builds off of the word's meaning and uses other words to help one better understand the meaning.
This is a still image of a video from the movie The Lorax. I found the movie clip from this website, then I took a screenshot of the moment I wanted to be captured.
I will include this still image in my mash-up but I think I also want to include a few seconds of the clip right where this image was.
This scene was about the Lorax begging the Once-ler to stop cutting down trees before there were no trees remaining.
This still image is from the same video clip as the preceding image.
In this spot of the clip the Once-ler sees the devastation that his actions caused and is surprised, as can be seen in this image. I think I would like for this still image to be in my mash-up, as well as a couple seconds of the movie clip.
This image comes after the previous one because this one shows the aftermath of the one to the left.
This image is a screenshot from a movie clip that I found here.
I would like to have both this still image in my mash-up as well as a few seconds of the actual movie clip so that my viewers can hear what the older man Bruce said to the young boy Josh about hating your opponents and having contempt toward them.
This clip is from the movie Searching for Bobby Fischer.
This is a still image also from the movie Searching for Bobby Fischer and is was taken from the same video clip as the previous image.
In this moment the young boy Josh explained that he didn't hate others and that he was not Bobby Fischer, despite the older man trying to convince him to be like Bobby Fischer.
I think I might want this still image as well as a few seconds of the boy's explanation shown in my mash-up.
I chose this image to appear after the previous one because this event took place after the previous and because it wouldn't make much sense without first seeing the previous image/clip.
This is a definition of self-will that I took from The Free Dictionary website. Self-will plays a large part in ethics and is a component of ethics that can help people have a better grasp of what ethics is.
Every person has self-will and that is shown in our everyday actions. There are only two options when it comes to will; people can either sacrifice their self-will and do something in another's will or they can hold on to their own will and do things for themselves. Those who abandon their own will to do something for another person would be considered ethical. On the other hand, people who are selfish and only please themselves are acting unethically.
I would like this image to be in my mash-up, perhaps more than once.
This image portrays the definition, according to Merriam-Webster online, of the word sacrifice. The act of sacrificing one's own will to give someone else what they desire or need is an element of ethics.
This follows the previous definition because I want my mash-up viewers to see the definition of self-will first, since I think that sacrifice is an extension of self-will.
The semiotic theory I can see being used here is interpretation. Some people interpret the word "sacrifice" in one way and others in another way. The interpretation of this word can be all over the place. I want to include this definition that I found because I think it goes well with my concept of ethics.
I chose a "Do not enter" sign because this is a conventional sign that people see every day. I thought that if people could relate to this image it might aid them in better understanding the concept of ethics.
This is another standard sign that I thought many individuals would be able to connect to their daily lives. I think that showing an image which is applicable to everyday things will help people grasp the message I am trying to get across in my mash-up.
I want this image to appear after the "Do not enter" sign because it is a similar example.
I thought this was an interesting image that portrayed the idea of right and wrong really well. It captures the confusion in right and wrong and therefore could be relevant to my mash-up viewers.
I thought this image should be placed after the two preceding signs because it makes one really think about the idea of ethics, you cannot simply read this once and grasp all that it is saying, you have to think about it a bit.
This image is a screenshot from a video on ethics that I found on the Internet Archives website titled Ethics, Values, and Conduct.
I thought putting this scene with police in it after the traffic signs would be a good idea because it enforces their importance.
I think this still image could be shown multiple times throughout the video.
In this scene from the video the store owner is selling an item to the policeman, he offers him a great deal because he is an officer. The other policeman shakes his head in disapproval of the man's bartering.
